2026 RAM 1500: The Hemi Is Back on the Menu!

RAM 1500 enthusiasts will be thrilled to hear that the legendary Hemi engine is finally making a comeback for the 2026 model year.

Stellantis has taken a rather radical turn in recent years by heavily focusing on electrification and phasing out many models equipped with large V8 engines. Last year, the company made its boldest move yet by announcing the discontinuation of the V8 in the RAM lineup, leaving only the Hurricane engine as an option. Don’t get me wrong—the 6-cylinder turbocharged Hurricane engine is highly capable, but it still has a long way to go to prove itself, unlike the tried-and-true Hemi that’s been around for ages.

The Comeback!

For 2026, buyers will once again be able to order a RAM 1500 with the legendary 5.7-liter Hemi V8. This iconic engine delivers 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. It’s now paired with a 48-volt mild hybrid system that alone can provide an additional 130 lb-ft of torque. This added boost is primarily used during takeoff from a standstill—when the vehicle requires the most energy. The mild hybrid system operates using energy recovered through the driveshaft and braking system.

Thanks to this setup, the 2026 RAM 1500 will offer a towing capacity of 11,470 pounds and a payload capacity of 1,750 pounds.

The Hemi V8 will be available on nearly the entire RAM lineup, including the Tradesman, Big Horn, Express, Warlock, Laramie, Rebel, Limited, and Longhorn trims. In fact, the only versions where the Hemi won’t be offered are the RHO and Tungsten models.

RAM also issued a press release apologizing for having removed the Hemi from the lineup in the first place, acknowledging the mistake and explaining that this is precisely why the iconic V8 is making its return. The brand’s designers even took the opportunity to create a fun new badge to go along with the Hemi, symbolizing the public\'s outcry. You’ll find it featured on the truck’s fenders.

In my opinion, the return of the Hemi engine to the RAM lineup is likely to give a serious boost to RAM 1500 sales. In fact, you can already place your order at your local dealership. The first units should start arriving in showrooms within the next few weeks.
