|
Powertrain and Transmission
|
| |
2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser offers a trio of powerful and efficient engines. Take your pick from:
- A 2.4L DOHC 4-cylinder that generates 150 horsepower is standard on PT Cruiser, Classic and Touring Edition
- A 2.4L DOHC 16-valve Turbo that delivers 180 horsepower is available on both Classic and Touring Edition
- A 2.4L DOHC 16-valve High-Output Turbo with 220 horsepower is standard PT Cruiser GT
The standard 5-speed manual transmission is engineered for optimum performance and fuel efficiency.
The optional 4-speed automatic (standard on Classic and Touring Edition with Turbo Engine) is an electronic, fully adaptive transmission with torque management coordination between engine and transmission for smooth, quick shifts and smooth power delivery on hilly roads.
To handle the muscle of PT Cruiser"s 220-horsepower High-Output Turbocharged engine, Chrysler engineers developed a special heavy-duty 5-speed manual.
|
Traction Control
|
| |
The advanced engineering story continues with Low-Speed Traction Control. This handy feature is included with the ABS and 4-wheel disc brake options (available on Classic and Touring with Turbo engine, standard on GT models) and helps give you extra grip and control when starting out on slick or icy roads. Here"s a look at how it works:
- Helps keep the front (driving) wheels from slipping during acceleration, especially if one wheel is on a slippery surface
- Is standard on vehicles equipped with 2.4L Turbo engine
- Is automatically active below about 56 km/h (35 mph)
- Can be disabled by the driver using a switch on the dash
|
Suspension System
|
| |
The PT Cruiser front and rear suspensions are among some of the most finely-tuned in the industry.
On twisting country roads or well-worn city streets, every component in the system works in tandem to help deliver an overall smooth ride that you"ll appreciate time and time again.
|
Air Bags
|
| |
Next-Generation driver and front-passenger air bags* standard on all models
- Available seat-mounted supplemental side air bags* (Standard on Touring Edition and GT; available on PT Cruiser and Classic Edition models)
*Certified to federal regulations that allow less forceful front air bags. Always use seat belts. Children 12 and under should always be in a back seat correctly using an infant or child restraint system, or the seat belt properly positioned dependent on the child"s age and weight.
|
Seat Belts and Child Seats
|
| |
While safety is important, feeling safe should never mean feeling uncomfortable. That"s why PT Cruiser Sedan features:
- Front seat belts include height-adjustable turning loops and travelling inboard buckles for added comfort
- User-ready child seat lower anchors and top tether anchors (LATCH) are located at all three rear seating positions and are compatible with aftermarket child seats, for easy installation
- 3-point safety belts for all rear-seat occupants provide improved protection
|
Structural Rigidity
|
| |
Beneath all that PT Cruiser style is some serious design engineering that uses high-strength steel and differential thickness panels to deliver impressive structural integrity, all of which contributes to everything from safety to a smooth, quiet ride.
|
Brakes
|
| |
The overall ample size of the PT Cruiser front-disc brakes and rear-drum brakes help to provide long-term smooth operation and good pedal feel.
- Large-diameter front rotors help ensure ample stopping ability and heat resistance
- Standard power front disc/rear drum brakes have stamped-steel hub sections and cast-iron friction surfaces and adjust automatically when the brakes are applied
- Power front disc/rear drum brakes with anti-lock available on Touring and Classic Edition with the non-Turbo engine
- Performance 4-wheel disc anti-lock brakes with Low-Speed Traction Control are standard on PT Cruiser GT and available on Classic and Touring Editions with Turbo engine
|
Cargo Capacity
|
| |
- Able to carry objects up to 2.4 metres (8 feet) long with the liftgate closed
- Has 1818 litres (64.2 cubic feet) of interior cargo space to pack, stow and carry almost anything your world has to offer (Properly secure all cargo.)
|
Shelf Panel
|
| |
The multiposition rear shelf panel,* standard on Classic, Touring and GT, is the very model of functionality. Ready for you when you need it, the movable divider can:
- Act as a cover for increased security
- Flip over and help protect your floor from messy cargo
- Be placed at the same height as the folded rear seat for an extension of the flat load floor
- Leave the liftgate open, pull the panel to the rear, flip the leg down and load it up with food and beverages*
- When the panel is in a vertical position behind the rear seat, you can secure your grocery bags on the four built-in hooks†
- When in the "up" position, rear seat passengers can also reach items with ease
*Do not load objects over 45 kilograms (100 pounds) on rear multiposition shelf. Do not drive vehicle with liftgate open. Do not use shelf panel as a seat.
†Shelf panel is not a load-bearing divider.
|
Seating Configurations
|
| |
Simply put, PT Cruiser adapts to handle just about anything that can come up in a day. Got some unexpected cargo? No problem.
Just fold down either side - or both sides of the 35/65 split-folding rear seat.
Got something tall to move? Fold the rear seat up and you"ve got floor-to-ceiling space. Or remove it altogether to handle the really big stuff with a flat-loading floor.
With the available folding-flat option, the front-passenger seat can pitch in too. Try doing that with a regular sedan.
*Properly secure all cargo.
|
Storage
|
| |
For concealing those "out of sight, out of mind" important items, PT Cruiser features:
- A storage drawer under the front-passenger seat (standard on Classic, Touring and GT)
- A large, lockable glove box that has enough room for the little odds and ends that accumulate inside a car, and has moulded-in pen and tire gauge holders for easy access
A console located on the floor contains:
- Four cupholders
- Coin holder
- Letter holder
- Cassette/CD storage
- Multipurpose bin
- Pen/pencil tray
- Auxiliary power outlet
|
Power Outlets
|
| |
PT Cruiser hooks you up with a different kind of power inside with handy 12-volt power outlets in both the centre console and the rear cargo area.
Now pay attention: the centre console outlet is standard on all models. But the rear cargo and instrument panel outlets are available on PT Cruiser Classic when you get the optional Light Group and Sunroof Group. However, they are standard on Touring and GT models.
They"re ideal for everything from kids" games to coolers to a portable air compressor.
