The Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 with All Wheel Drive (AWD) will soon employ a new Borg-Warner transfer case that's designed to enhance performance and reduce fuel consumption. The new InterActive Torque Management transfer case is a compact and efficient unit that combines on-demand AWD with an on-demand front-axle disconnect, which improves fuel economy by disengaging the front axle when it's not required. 2008 Chrysler 300 The new transfer case also boasts improvements to noise, vibration and harshness (NVH), and utilizes software that's designed to work in sync with other vehicle components as it switches from rear drive to all wheel drive as needed. It will replace Chrysler's current AWD system, which favors a permanent torque split between the front and rear wheels. "We are proud of our collaborative efforts with Chrysler LLC to launch this new all-wheel-drive system that helps improve fuel economy," said Tim Manganello, BorgWarner Chairman and CEO.
